The Truman Show is a film directed by Peter Weir in 1998 and is about the life of Truman Brubank.
He is 30 years old, lives in small, tidy island called Seahaven, he works for an insurance company and is married with Marlen, a nurse who works in the local hospital.
His life quietly runs day by as a normal man, apart for his fear of water caused by a shipwreck happened when he was a child and where he lost his father.
This caused to him « aquaphobia », so he cannot even stand close to water without feeling bad.
But Truman is unaware to be the star of a reality show in which his life is filmed by thousands of cameras, 24 hours a day, and that he is watched by millions of people all over the world sice he was born. All the people he knows, his wife, his mother, his best friend, his boss are all characters of the reality show. All his world is just a huge television set built on purpose by Cristof, the creator of the show.
Little by little Truman begins to realize that there is something strange in his life and tries in vain to run away from his town. TV viewers cheer for him and hope he manages to escape.
Finally he overcomes his fear of water and sails in a storm until he finds the edge of his world : the exit door from the huge, artificial dome that had been his life and also his prison.
